About the Competition

The Tampere Flute Fest’s 6th Young Artist Competition will take place from April 23 to 26, 2026, with the first round being a video submission and the semifinal and final rounds held live in Tampere, Finland.

The competition is open to flutists of all nationalities born on or after January 1, 1992. Registration will be open from August 1, 2025, to October 1, 2025. Candidates must register on Muvac. The following documents must be included for the application to be considered:

•A photocopy of a national identity card or passport
•A high-definition photo
•A list of selected pieces for the first video round
•A list of the chosen pieces
•A YouTube link to the first video round
•Proof of payment for the non-refundable application fee of 85€

2. Telemann Fantasies for Viola da gamba solo arranged for flute by Leona Rötzsch (Publisher: Bärenreiter), to be played with piccolo, alto-flute or baroque flute. Without repetitions.

3. L. Wennäkoski: Ilmakehästä (From Atmosphere) for flute and piano (publisher: Uusinta Publishing company)

Final Round

The final round is designed to portray the performer’s overall artistic and technical qualities. Creativity, originality, and musical expression are essential components of this free-choice program, allowing candidates to demonstrate their unique interpretations. Participants should draw inspiration from the theme “Fantasy – from Baroque to Modern,” exploring how the concept of fantasy has evolved across musical eras and styles. Each candidate will present a 40-minute recital featuring works of their choice and must provide a title and description of their program. While piano and harpsichord are traditional options, candidates are welcome to incorporate other instruments, provided they arrange for their own transportation and associated costs.

April 26, 2026

The final round will take place live in Tampere, Finland, on April 26, 2026, with the Winners Ceremony held that evening at the beginning of the Gala Concert.

Second Prize
2500€

The second prize winner will receive a cash prize of €2,500 and a full scholarship to attend the 2026 International Flute Seminar in Bruges to study with Peter Verhoyen from the Antwerp Symphony Orchestra.

Third Prize
1250€

The third prize winner will receive a cash prize of €1,250 and a full scholarship to attend the 2027 Probespielakademie in Germany to study with Jeremy Abergel from the Hannover State Opera.

Best Interpretation Award
500€

A Best Interpretation Award of €500 will be given by the Finnish Association of Composers for the best performance of L. Wennäkoski’s Ilmakehästä.

The jury for the semifinal and final rounds will be announced at a later date.
