TFF’s 6th Young aRTIsT competition
The Tampere Flute Fest’s 6th Young Artist Competition will take place from April 23 to 26, 2026, with the first round being a video submission and the semifinal and final rounds held live in Tampere, Finland.
TFF’s international competition provides young flutists the opportunity to elevate their artistry and gain valuable recognition, all aligned with this year’s festival theme: Fantasy: From Baroque to Modern.
The competition is open to flutists of all nationalities born on or after January 1, 1998. Registration will be open from August 15, 2025, to November 15, 2025. Candidates must register on Muvac.
Selected participants will be notified on January 31, 2026, and will receive full access for the entire duration of the 2026 Tampere Flute Fest.

- A photocopy of a national identity card or passport.
- Biography (max. 300 words).
- A high-definition photo with the instrument.
- A list of selected pieces for the first video round.
- A YouTube link to the first video round.
- Proof of payment for the non-refundable application fee of 85€.
All applicants will receive feedback and be notified of the selection results on January 31, 2026. Previous first prize winners are ineligible to apply. We advise all applicants to carefully review the rules and general information before applying to maximize their chances in the competition.

Final Round
The final round is designed to portray the performer’s overall artistic and technical qualities. Creativity, originality, and musical expression are essential components of this free-choice program, allowing candidates to demonstrate their unique interpretations. Participants should draw inspiration from the theme “Fantasy – from Baroque to Modern,” exploring how the concept of fantasy has evolved across musical eras and styles. Each candidate will present a 40-minute recital featuring works of their choice and must provide a title and description of their program. While the piano and harpsichord are traditional options, candidates are welcome to incorporate other instruments, provided they arrange for their own transportation and associated costs. The use of electronics is also encouraged; however, candidates must be aware that our technicians can only assist with turning devices on and off. We also encourage the inclusion of auxiliary instruments, such as the piccolo, alto flute, or baroque flute, to enhance the overall performance.

The final round will take place live in Tampere, Finland, on April 26, 2026, with the Winners Ceremony held that evening at the beginning of the Gala Concert.

First Prize
5.000€
The first prize winner will receive a cash prize of 5.000€, an invitation to perform a recital at TFF 2028, and a full scholarship to attend the 2026 Penthesilea Academy in Austria to study with Karin Bonelli from the Vienna Philharmonic and Gudrun Hinze from the Gewandhausorchester Leipzig.
Second Prize
2.500€
The second prize winner will receive a cash prize of €2,500 and a full scholarship to attend the 2026 International Flute Seminar Bruges in Belgium. This includes the opportunity to study with Also Baerten and Peter Verhoyen from the Antwerp Symphony Orchestra, Blaž Snoj from the Nederlands Kamerata, and Gareth McLearnon, Haynes European Artist in Residence.
Third Prize
1.250€
The third prize winner will receive a cash prize of 1.250€ and a full scholarship to attend the 2027 Probespielakademie in Germany to study with Jérémie Abergel from the Hannover State Opera and other internationally renowned flutists.
Best Interpretation Award
500€
A Best Interpretation Award of 500€ will be given for the best performance of Lotta Wennäkoski’s Ilmakehästä.
