Film: Lindu

LINDU depicts the mythology and traditions related to death in the Karelian tradition. The story follows the preparation for a burial in a Soviet Karelian village around the 1960s, where traditions are still present and passed on through the rituals performed by the mother. The flute plays a large role, played by flutist Robert Tobin, and is central throughout the film. It was decided to vary the colour and pitch in the different areas of the film so three different flutes were used. Firstly an ivory headed 19th century simple system flute, secondly a modern Boehm flute and lastly a wooden baroque flute.
