Born in Lyon, France, flutist Alexis Roman, began playing the flute at the age of six. He went on to pursue his professional studies at the Lyon Conservatoire, under the tutelage of Michel Lavignolle and later on at the Haute Ecole de Musique in Lausanne, Switzerland where he obtained two Master Degrees in the class of José-Daniel Castellon. In addition, Roman has also studied with Sophie Cherrier and Vincent Lucas at the Conservatoire National Supérieur de Musique in Paris. Alexis Roman is the Principal Flute of the Finnish National Opera and Ballet since August 2020. He previously held the same position in the Jyväskylä Sinfonia, where he was appointed by renowned conductor and flutist Patrick Gallois in 2012. Roman frequently guests with numerous Finnish orchestras as well as orchestras abroad. He has recorded for the Ondine label together with leading Finnish artists
and released the complete flute duets from W.F.Bach together with Seiya Ueno in 2019. Alexis has been the Program Chair at Tampere Flute Fest since 2020.
